Alberto Brunete, PhD


Alberto Brunete is Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics, Automation and Industrial Informatics, E.T.S.I.D.I, of the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (UPM).

Hereceived his M.S. degree in Telecommunication Engineering and his Ph.D. degree in Robotics and Automation from the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (UPM) (Spain) in 2000 and 2010, respectively. From 2003 he has been working with the Robotics and Cybernetics Research Group of the UPM.

He has been Senior Researcher and Technical Manager at the Research Center for Smart Buildings and Energy Efficiency (CeDInt-UPM) and Visiting Professor in the Department of System Engineering and Automation at the Carlos III University (Spain). He is currently Assistant Professor at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM).

He has done several research stages in Norway (NTNU, 2000), USA (University of Hawaii, 2002), Switzerland (EPFL, 2005) and United Arab Emirates (New York University Abu Dhabi, 2012).

He has also worked for several companies: Comverse (Systems Engineer, 2002-2003), and the Spanish SMEs AtelMedia (Home Automation Manager, 2007-2009) and AMETIC (R&D Consultant, 2009-2011).

He has worked on several national and European R&D projects as Researcher and Project Manager. His main research activities are related to robotics and smart environments (ambient intelligence and ambient assisted living). He has experience in home and building automation protocols, wired and wireless control networks, mechatronic design, robot control architectures and artificial intelligence.

From January 2012 he has been collaborating with the Alzheimer Spain Foundation, coordinating the working group on home automation for Alzheimer patients “DomAlz”.
